Artist Statement:
My work is shaped by existential questions—how we attain meaning, how we become self-realized, and how identity is formed in the space between inherited histories and lived experience. As a Mexican-American, my sense of self has always existed between cultures. Both Mexicans and Americans live within narratives shaped by myth and negation, where histories are partially recorded and partially erased. It is this act of reclaiming the past and the unconcealment of what has been obscured that guides my practice.
In the studio, I approach artmaking as a form of investigation. Working across painting, drawing, mixed media, and video, I use archetypal symbolism—including esoteric emblems, origin stories, and glyphs—to explore how personal experience intersects with collective memory. By tracing recurring patterns across cultures and time, I tap into the shared psyche to illuminate lost or forgotten aspects of identity.
